The first electric air conditioner was invented in 1902. Interestingly enough, though, it wasn’t made to cool people down—instead, its purpose was to reduce humidity so that ink would stick to paper.
Fast forward to today and nearly three-quarters of all homes have ACs. What’s more, is that they cost U.S. homeowners over $29 billion each year!
Like most machines, however, they can break down. When that happens, there are a few things that you can do before calling an AC technician.
What are they? Want to know? If so, make sure to read the rest of the post!

5 Things to Check Before Hiring an AC Repair Service
A number of things can cause your AC to stop working. Before trying to use the best AC repair service, consider checking the following:
1. Air Filter
Most, if not all ACs have filters; their role is to prevent dust and grime from building up. Over time, however, they can become dirty or clogged, which can cause problems.
Generally speaking, you want to replace the filter once every few months. Not only will it be better for the AC, but it’ll also be better for your health!
2. Circuit Breakers
This goes without saying but an AC won’t work if the circuit breaker is turned off. In some cases, they can also trip. When that happens, you’ll want to reset the breaker.
Generally speaking, they’re located in the garage. Sometimes, however, they can be found in the hallway, storage room, or basement.
3. Vents
It’s not uncommon for AC vents to become clogged. If that happens, there will be weak airflow.
If necessary, remove the vent cover and check directly behind the grill. Basically, it’s a screen that prevents large particles from entering the room.
Over time, these objects can clog the vent, which will affect the AC’s ability to perform.
4. Electrical Power
Make sure to check that you have power before calling an AC technician. Believe it or not, but some people will call even during a power outage.
Not only can it be embarrassing, but chances are, you’ll have to pay for the service call as well—even if there’s technically nothing wrong with the AC.
5. Thermostat
Thermostat issues can affect your AC’s performance. For example, they won’t be able to send your air conditioner the right instructions if they’re not appropriately calibrated.
The good news is that they can be fixed or replaced easily. In some cases, it might just need some new batteries.
